I am doing this because if I get the job I may consider just selling my car down here and hopefully live downtown where I can bike or walk to work (with appropriate outdoor gear of course). Public Transport - I am going to bring single dollar bills in cash and use the public transport while I am there to test out its range, ease of use, and consistency with keeping to schedules. Normally at home I spend about $85 bucks a week on the same set of groceries (I buy the exact same groceries nearly every week as I am into fitness/nutrition/weight loss and count protein/calories) I will buy at one store and literally write down the prices at the other stores to try and get a 3 store average. Groceries - I am going to pretend like I am actually already living here and buy groceries for the week.Just trying to ballpark costs here and see if there are any weird quasi monopoly situations going on in this small community. I assume some of the utilities like water are probably city run. Utilities/Trash - I will be calling the electric, gas, water companies to determine things like price per kilowatt hougallon etc. If I get the time I will also explore apartment possibilities across the bridge and near the valley. I will also determine if water is included with the rent. I will specifically be asking about the possibilities of 6 month leases or the flexibility to lease month to month when I get there in person. By "hitting" I mean actually set up appointments and tours with the landlords which I should probably call in advance before I leave.
